Frequently asked questions
Straight answers for the controllers, CFOs, and accounting managers who evaluate this themselves — no sales call required. The short version: your investment data never leaves your institution, the software is code-signed by Granite Hall Solutions LLC, and everything below is written to survive your IT and exam review. Don’t see your question? Ask us directly.
Does FI Investment Tracker host our investment data?
No — and it never does. FI Investment Tracker runs as desktop software on your own machines. Your investment holdings, import files, report packages, backups, and workpapers stay entirely inside your institution’s environment. We never receive, transmit, or store your portfolio data, which means there’s no vendor cloud to breach, no data-residency question to answer, and far less to document in your third-party / vendor-risk review. The only thing that ever touches our servers is license and billing metadata — see the next question.
If we cancel or stop paying, can we still get our data and records?
Yes. Because the data lives on your machine, it is always yours. Your holdings, history, report packages, and restore-point backups remain on your own systems whether or not the license is active — we hold nothing to hand back, and there is no vendor cloud to evacuate. After a license lapses, paid workflows pause, but the app keeps read and manual-backup access so you can retrieve and export your records. You are never locked out of your own book.
What happens to our data if your company goes away?
Nothing happens to it — it stays right where it has always been, on your own machines. FI Investment Tracker is local-first desktop software, so your holdings, history, report packages, and backups never depend on us being in business. There is no vendor server holding your data hostage and nothing to recover from a third party. Your last installed copy keeps running on your systems, and you keep read access and the ability to create and export manual backups, so you can retrieve and preserve your full book and records on your own. Your records do not disappear if we do.
How do we move our book over from AIR / ACE?
Migrating off ACE is straightforward and your accounting carries over. Export your data from your legacy system (ACE creates a file named invfixvc.csv), choose the Legacy AIR / ACE export profile under Interfaces, and preview the import. Your key investment details carry over — amortized cost, accrual basis and balance, premium/discount, factor, original and current face, WAC/WAM, CPR/PSA, call dates, and step schedules — and any holdings without a CUSIP import by their account number. Reconcile against your last report from the old system to prove the tie-out, then save your column mapping so future imports match automatically. You’re not rebuilding your book from scratch — you’re bringing it with you.
Is this a regulatory filing system?
It prepares everything you need for filing, but you stay in control of the official submission. FI Investment Tracker handles the heavy lifting — amortization, month-end close, GL tie-out, reconciliation, and exam-ready evidence and call-report / FFIEC support packages — so your numbers and documentation are ready to file and ready to defend in an exam. Your institution remains responsible for the official filing, accounting policy, and final report approval, exactly as your examiners expect.
How do we verify the installer?
Every release ships through our published release channel with a SHA-256 checksum file and a code-signed Windows installer (publisher GRANITE HALL SOLUTIONS LLC). Your IT team can confirm the checksum and the signature before deploying, and should keep that release evidence with their deployment records — standard, exam-friendly change control. (FI Investment Tracker is Windows-only today.)
Windows shows “Windows protected your PC” when we run the installer — is that a problem?
No. That blue screen is Microsoft Defender SmartScreen showing a one-time caution because the application is newly released and its download reputation is still building. The installer is code-signed by GRANITE HALL SOLUTIONS LLC. Click More info, then Run anyway, and on the User Account Control prompt confirm the verified publisher reads GRANITE HALL SOLUTIONS LLC — that confirms the installer is authentic and unmodified. The prompt stops appearing as the release accumulates downloads. If the publisher shows anything other than Granite Hall Solutions LLC, do not proceed and contact support.
What does the license server store?
License and billing details only — never your portfolio. Our servers hold subscription status, plan, license ID, a hashed license key, activation counts, hashed machine identifiers, and download status. That’s the complete list. No CUSIPs, no balances, no holdings, no reports — none of your financial data is on it, by design. This is what lets us say your investment data never leaves your institution.
What happens if payment fails?
You won’t lose access to your data. If a payment fails, the app keeps read access and lets you create and export manual backups so you can always retrieve your records. Active paid workflows (close, reporting, posting) pause once the license-validity and offline-grace periods run out — they resume the moment billing is current again. Nothing is deleted, and your book stays on your machine throughout.
Can the app work offline?
Yes. The software keeps working offline for a set grace period without checking in. After that period, it needs a one-time internet connection to confirm your subscription is active before the paid features continue.
How do backups work?
The software saves backup snapshots you control — either on your computer or in a storage location you choose. Restoring a backup brings back your data while keeping your current subscription status, so an old backup can’t be used to sidestep billing.
Can support request our portfolio file?
No — and you should never need to send it. Our support works from your app version, platform, license status, backup status, logs, and screenshots, which contain no financial data. Please don’t send portfolio files, source imports, CUSIPs, GL balances, or report packages — we don’t want them and don’t need them to help you. Your book stays yours, even during a support case.
Do we need vendor-led training?
No. The software has a built-in onboarding guide you can reopen anytime, step-by-step tutorials tailored to each person’s role, and how-to walkthroughs, plus this user guide. Most teams get up and running without bringing in a trainer.
How do we learn the product without a trainer?
The in-app Onboarding center walks 11 role-based steps from orientation through close and reporting, each linking to the live screen; the Training view holds the tutorial library and guided how-to walkthroughs; and the full User Guide and FAQ are one click away. No vendor-led training is required.
How are MBS/CMO paydowns and step bonds handled?
At month-end, prepayment-sensitive holdings post actual principal paydowns — tied to a custodian-reported factor when present, otherwise modeled (CPR/PSA) and flagged; CMO tranches distribute by structure (sequential, PAC + support, VADM/Z). Step-up/step-down bonds accrue at the scheduled coupon in effect on each close date.
Are online loan applications handled the same way?
No. Online loan applications collect sensitive borrower information — personal details, ID and income documents, and signatures — so that add-on runs with extra protections built specifically for it: secure hosting, defined data-retention rules, malware scanning, separation of each institution’s data from every other’s, and a legal review before it goes live for real applicants.
Do you build websites or mobile apps?
Website design and hosting can be scoped when an institution needs a better public site, product page, lending link, or implementation handoff. Mobile banking apps are not offered because they require live core account, balance, and transaction integrations that are outside the current service scope.
What is included in the suite?
The launch suite covers investment tracking, FI reconciliation, vendor/compliance evidence, exam-room workflows, policy tracking, access reviews, optional online loan applications, and optional website design and hosting.
How do we buy — is there a sales call?
No call required. Pick your plan on the Pricing page, check out online, and you’ll receive your license and download link immediately. The whole purchase, license, and install flow is self-serve. If you’d rather talk to a person first, reach out — but you don’t have to.
Still have a question?
We answer every message ourselves. Send it over — or if you’re ready, see plans and pricing or download FI Investment Tracker. No sales call, no pressure.
